Do you want to build a home in the coming year? Or, are you happy with where you are and just want to remodel your home for a refresh of the living space? B. Chaney Improvements has a team with experience in constructing all styles of homes and renovating current spaces.

And while it is great to research plans, pictures and materials – including a list of priorities you want in your new home, addition or renovation – don’t spend too much time doing so before meeting with a contractor.

A Builder’s Advice

According to an experienced home designer, some of the cutting edge building materials would be a waste of time and money to consider. One example are certain solar applications where the equipment would break down before any real savings was realized.

Many of these same principals apply to someone adding a major addition or doing a whole house renovation. These types of projects — a great choice if you like your location, but want to upgrade your living space — sometimes have more limitations. However getting a builder’s perspective can often open up ideas the homeowner could not imagine.

B. Chaney Improvements owner Brad Chaney has the ability to take a homeowner’s ideas and transform them into elegant, practical upgrades in the finished project. This could happen with opening up an enclosed space or adding an entire wing for more square footage.

He just did this with the remodeling of an entire Mt. Pleasant home.

The work included a complete gutting of the main floor of the raised, single-family house. Brad and his crew rebuilt the kitchen, existing bath and closed in part of the wrap-around porch. The additional enclosed space was enough to add a bathroom to the existing bedroom for a master suite, and another bedroom. Other improvements included new floors, windows, a metal roof and some renovations to the second floor living area.

“The quality of his work is outstanding,” says Lisa, owner of the coastal cottage.
